BMW Repairs for the Coming Winter

11/28/2023

With the winter fast approaching, it's important to reflect on how your BMW has been treating you throughout this last year. At the same time, though, it's important to reflect on how you have been treating your BMW.

When treated right, a BMW is one of the most reliable vehicles that money can buy. In fact, in 2022, Consumer Reports performed a reliability study on more than 500,000 vehicles and found that BMW is in the top 3 most reliable automakers in the world. That being said, even the most finely tuned vehicles need regular maintenance, and BMWs are no different. In this month's blog post, we'll be discussing why it's important to get regular BMW maintenance performed and the signs you should look out for when you decide if repair is needed.

BMW Maintenance: Why it Matters

Like our bodies, vehicles work using complex systems and chains of command that all impact one another's performance. Our bodies generally have the advantage of being able to fix themselves (with the right nutrients), but cars generally need a little extra push. Without the proper care and maintenance, problems that a car faces will expound and spread throughout the entire system, much like a cold that never gets treated. BMW maintenance is critical, then, because even a seemingly simple issue such as worn brake pads can lead to the entire brake system being damaged.

How to Tell if You Need BMW Repair

The simple answer to this is: because your BMW just isn't working correctly. As you may be thinking, though, figuring out what it means for a BMW to be working incorrectly can be surprisingly difficult. For that reason, we'll be going over a few warning signs you can look for in your own BMW.

The Check Engine Light

Probably the easiest way to tell if something is wrong, the check engine light is an unfortunate (but necessary) indication that your BMW could have something wrong with it. While a check engine light could mean major or minor issues with your vehicle, the path that leads to more damage than necessary is never getting it checked.

Decreasing Gas Mileage

This one is a bit subtler, so you'll have to keep it in the back of your mind. If you notice that you're filling up your gas tank more often on your way to work, or if you notice you're running low on gas more frequently with no meaningful change to your driving schedule, then you may want to get your BMW checked out.

New, Unfamiliar Engine Noises

You're probably very familiar with what your car's engine sounds like--to the point where you may be able to distinguish it from another's by sound alone. One of the best ways to easily check if you need BMW repair performed, then, is to just roll down your car's window and listen to the engine. If you notice any sounds that aren't routine to your engine, then getting your engine checked quickly could turn a potential $500 repair into a $50 repair.
